just had my 1day assembly this weekend.
an experience given by the bethel speaker was quite troubling and shows how jw's live in constant paranoia, anxiety and they isolate themselves from normal living.. a first grade class was having a fire drill.
everyone ( except one) lined up and stood outside away fron the classroom in the grass.
This is so pathetic. I hope it wasn't a real story because not teaching children how to reason and think can cause them to lose their life. There is nothing cute about this story at all.
Searcher, my husband was a born in and he hated school because he always felt left out. He wanted to play football and his mom wouldn't allow it but she did let him run track and play baseball which is more than most are allowed to do.
if you think about how they word and spin doctor everything, such as on jw org, the faq about shunning members who leave the religion....if a jw says, "look, it says you don't shun ex members and family ties remain no matter what!
", they will say, "na ah ah!!
if you look closely it talks about inactive ones who are not shunned, and as for family, the example is of a husband in the same household as his wife and children.
I have suspected for awhile now that many of their articles are being cleared by lawyers to keep them from being sued but I also don't feel they write them.

today my oldest daughter attended her first birthday party ever for one of her best friends at school.
we actually crashed because we didn't get an official invite or even an email, but it ended up working out and the mom was happy to have us there.
That is very good news and so uplifting to hear of a young one who is using her critical thinking abilities. You are definitely doing something right in helping your daughter to get out. Keep us posted on her progress.

in the meantime, everyday i am discovering so much about being a jw i never knew, like don't buy girl scout cookies, that i keep asking myself "what have i got myself into".. maat.

Yes they do have lots of money but how many homeless people have they helped, how many soup kitchens have they provided, how many widows and orphans have they supported. The list goes on and on of the things this charitable organization has not done. It is really very disgusting that they have a charitable status but yet no money goes to those who need help in any way. Their money goes to printing magazines, books, real estate, paying very little for slave labor, for lawyers to fight endless legal battles and paying settlements to victims of child molestation. I would say their record is very dismal. They have preyed on good hearted people who have given their hard earned money and yet most of them have a very limited knowledge of what it has been used for. When I got out and actually realized what they were doing it made me very angry.

Thanks Barbara for all of your hard work and for updating us on the progress. Of course Jerry Brown vetoed the bill, he has "friends" in high places. I find it very scary that the religious lobbyists are trying to do something that will cause harm to so many people. It is time that religion and all other organizations take responsibility and pay for covering up child abuse. The law needs to protect children and not these organizations.

i have been trying to live my life as best that i can since leaving jehovah's witnesses.
my dad was not a witness and was my rock when i left the religion.
Strawberry, If you haven't read Steven Hassen's books then I would suggest you do that so you know what to and what not to say. I agree with the others that you should keep away from discussing religion. I would continue to do what you are doing so you can have some type of relationship with her.
My husband told his mom who is in her mid 80's and has been in since she was a little girl that he no longer believed it was the "truth". He told her that if she asked him questions he was going to tell her the truth and if she talked about her religion then he had the right to talk about how he felt. She has not shunned him but their relationship has changed. She never brings up the religion so therefore he never talks about the lies of the WTS.
There are ways to get around not answering her directly and use the reverse of their "theocratic warefare". I would have no problem not answering her or changing the subject. I liked what someone else wrote that they are the apostates according to their definition because of all of their false teachings, so you aren't reading the WT and Awake so you aren't reading apostate books and magazines.
I hope it all works out for you and you can resume some kind of a relationship with her.
i know some people swear by ebay.. i like to actually see the product i am buying.
i'm not a big internet shopper.. places like job lots or discount stores like dollar tree are what i usually like.
k&g men's clothes and dsw shoes are other great spots to get big discounts.. where do you shop?.
I love Costcos too but I do not buy a lot of clothes there.

I love internet sales because you can find some great bargins for quality merchandise
We have a lot of outlet stores within and hour of us going north and south but they can be deceiving because sometimes they are the same price as the stores
i think i typically don't want to be either love bombed or questioned.
i happen to see jws a lot while visiting my mom.
they don't go there with me, which works well for all concerned..
We have faded but they still come to our door and neither of us will answer the door to them. I very rarely see them when I am out running errands or shopping. I did see one the other day in the drs office and she wanted to avoid me but she had to walk past me and I put on a big smile and said hi. She said hi back but was very uncomfortable. I honestly don't care to talk to most of them anymore especially if they bring up anything to do with their religion. I feel great about my choice and I don't care to hear any religion speaches.
when i was preschool, i had several dolls.
meetings were so hard at that age.
in fact, they were agony my entire life.
I have only seen it once and they would bring coloring books, snacks and other things. He is an elder now and at the time a MS but she was newly baptized.
We did have a sister who was a pioneer and elders wife who brought her lap top to the meeting to do work. She would set it up in one of the extra rooms and sit there during the meeting. She was on call with her job from what I understand but boy did they get the complaints about it. She kept doing it but finally stopped and I am sure it was the CO who put an end to it.
